Import Charges at a Glance
We ship from our European hubs in Italy and Sweden. Duty and tax treatment varies by destination:

  • EU member states: no customs duty on delivery

  • Monaco: special customs/VAT treatment applies

  • United Kingdom: import charges are customer-paid

  • United States: applicable import charges are included in the price shown

  • All other destinations: customer-paid unless clearly marked otherwise at checkout

At Sendegaro, we ship internationally from our European hubs in Italy or Sweden.

We aim to make import charges clear before you place an order. For some destinations, duties and taxes are included in the price you pay. For others, import charges are payable by the customer and may be collected by the courier before delivery.

Quick Summary

  • European Union (EU) destinations: no additional customs duties on delivery for orders shipped from our EU hubs.

  • Monaco: treated as a special case (see Monaco section below).

  • United Kingdom: import charges are customer-paid and may include import VAT, customs duty, and courier clearance/handling fees.

  • United States: applicable import duties, taxes, and customs fees are included in the price shown to U.S. customers (see U.S. section below).

  • Other international destinations: duties/taxes may apply and are customer-paid unless explicitly stated otherwise at checkout.

1) European Union (EU) Destinations

For customers in EU member states only, orders shipped from our hubs in Italy or Sweden are shipped within the EU.

This means:

  • No customs duties should be charged on delivery for intra-EU shipments. The European Commission’s customs guidance states there are no customs duties for goods coming from within the European Union.

  • VAT is handled in the sale/checkout pricing in line with applicable VAT rules. EU guidance explains VAT is calculated by the seller based on the applicable Member State VAT rules.

Important clarification

“Europe” is not the same as “EU.”
Countries such as the United Kingdom, Switzerland, and Türkiye are not EU member states and are not treated as intra-EU shipments for customs purposes. The EU currently has 27 member states.


2) Monaco (Special Arrangement)

Although Monaco is not an EU member state, it has a special customs/VAT position linked to France.

EU and EU-related official guidance indicates:

  • Monaco is part of the EU customs territory through its relationship with France.

  • For online consumer purchases, customs duty is not due, and for VAT purposes Monaco is treated as part of France under the relevant EU guidance.

What this means for Sendegaro customers in Monaco

Orders delivered to Monaco should not incur customs duty on delivery, and VAT treatment follows the applicable rules for this special arrangement.

3) United Kingdom (Customer-Paid Import Charges)

Orders shipped to the United Kingdom from Italy or Sweden are imports into the UK.

UK customers should expect import charges to be payable

These charges are customer-paid and are not included at checkout unless explicitly stated otherwise.

Depending on the order value, product category, and UK customs rules, charges may include:

  • Import VAT

  • Customs duty (where applicable)

  • Courier clearance / handling fees

UK government guidance confirms that goods sent from abroad may be subject to VAT and customs duty, and the courier/parcel company will notify the recipient if payment is required before delivery.

Important UK note

  • Your courier may contact you to pay import charges before the parcel is delivered.

  • The parcel may be held until payment is made.

  • If charges are not paid, the parcel may be returned. GOV.UK guidance notes parcels can be held and returned if charges are not paid.


4) United States (Duties & Taxes Included)

U.S. duties, taxes, and customs fees are included

For orders shipped to the United States, Sendegaro includes applicable U.S. import duties, taxes, and customs fees in the price shown to U.S. customers.

What this means for you

The price you see at checkout is the final price you will pay.
You should not be billed additional import duties, taxes, or customs charges on delivery for standard U.S. orders covered by this policy.

We collect and prepay applicable U.S. import charges on your behalf, and these costs are factored into the item price (and any shipping selected at checkout).

Product category note

Certain product categories (for example, eyewear) may carry specific U.S. duty rates. Where applicable, these are already included in the price shown to U.S. customers.

Why this changed

The U.S. suspended duty-free de minimis treatment more broadly under updated federal action, including changes effective in late August 2025.

Transition note

The former USD 800 de minimis rule applied to entries before 29 August 2025; duties are determined at the time of import/entry, not order date. For entries on/after 29 August 2025, your checkout total already includes applicable import charges.


5) Other International Destinations (Non-EU, excluding Monaco / UK / U.S.)

For destinations outside:

  • the EU (member states only),

  • Monaco,

  • and the U.S. policy above,

import charges may vary by country and may include:

  • import VAT / GST / sales tax

  • customs duties

  • courier brokerage / clearance / handling fees

  • local processing fees

Customer responsibility

Unless explicitly stated otherwise at checkout, these charges are customer-paid and may be requested by the courier before delivery.

This applies to many of the markets we ship to, including (for example): Australia, Canada, Switzerland, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Türkiye, South Korea, Japan, Singapore, South Africa, Mexico, Brazil, and others.

Important

Import laws and charges vary by:

  • destination country

  • product category (e.g. apparel, footwear, leather goods, eyewear)

  • declared customs value

  • local customs thresholds and regulations

6) Customs Delays

All international shipments are subject to customs clearance procedures. Customs processing times vary by country and are outside Sendegaro’s control.

This means delivery may occasionally take longer than the courier’s standard transit estimate.


7) Refused Shipments / Unpaid Customs Charges

Where duties, taxes, or courier fees are the customer’s responsibility (for example, UK and many non-EU destinations), the customer is informed on our policy pages and during shipping selection (where shipping options indicate whether duties/taxes are included or excluded).

If a shipment is refused, abandoned, or returned due to unpaid import charges, failure to claim the parcel, or ignored courier requests, any refund will be reduced by fees incurred, including:

  • return shipping charges

  • courier handling / brokerage / clearance charges

  • customs processing / return fees

  • other non-refundable costs charged to Sendegaro

This does not affect your statutory rights where applicable.
