Vienna Utility Sharpened in New York

Founded in 1986 by Austrian designer Helmut Lang in Vienna, the house grew from the precise T-shirts and off-white pants the founder could not find there before its cultural force expanded through Paris and New York. Lean suiting and flat-front trousers anchor an industrial wardrobe where denim and parkas pull tailoring toward workwear and streetwear. Detachable logo seatbelt straps and exposed rivets make ornament structural, while scarf-derived drape and flashes of fuchsia or fluorescent colour interrupt the black-and-white restraint.
